Slowing the
progression of Myopia in children
Two separate
studies performed over the last 5 years have indicated that we
can retard the increase of nearsightedness in predisposed
children with the simple use of multifocal contact lenses.
Studies by Karla Zadnick, Jerome Legerton, Thomas Aller and
Nicola Anstice have independantly confirmed that children of
myopic parents who wear multifocal contact lenses can reduce the
axial (length) growth of the eye and reduce the tendancy toward
myopia.
We have been applying Airoptix Multifocal lenses on children 5-12 with great results. These lenses are monthly wear and can
be worn 1 week continuously. We have concluded that we can stop
the increase in myopia in 80% of our patients.
The studies confirmed what we are finding.
Myopia is
epidemic and increasing especially in the Asian population.
