Dr. Don Robinson, O.D.
After graduating from
U.C. Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1975, Dr. Don Robinson returned home to
Millbrae to start his practice.
Dr. Don has always been on the forefront of new ideas to bring better vision care
to the public.
He was president of The San Mateo Country Optometric Society in 1976. In 1984,
Dr. Don developed and patented EZ2VU, a computer magnification device.
In 1988, along with
ten other prominent contact lens practitioners, he developed the concept
of and coined the name "frequent replacement contact lens fitting."
This concept of multiple lens replacement is the industry standard today.
Each year Dr. Don heads to the New York International Vision Trade Show to bring
back the latest in fashion eyewear to California.
In 1996, optometrists in California were granted the right to prescribe pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Don was among the first to pass the necessary courses to graduate and become
licensed for this privilege.
Dr. Don Robinson was voted Best Optometrist of 1998 by the readers of the San
Mateo County Times.
1998, Dr. Don started a company with the trademark itEyewear.
Dr. Don takes pride in community involvement.
In 1984, he created and sponsored a fundraiser dinner-dance for Airlift Africa.
For his 40th birthday, he invented and sponsored voyage 2000, a cruise to create
awareness of world hunger.
He participates in
and sponsors local melodrama group and park booster groups since 1986.
He has also coached
soccer, little league, and bobby sox for over ten years.
He has presented scholarship
to six local high school students.
For the past seven
years, he has supported his friend, Bill Laskey (former S.F. Giant'' pitcher),
by sponsoring and participating, in The Child Abuse Prevention Golf Tourney.
In 1998 and 1999, he sponsored the event personally (a commitment of $10,000
each year).
In 1999, Dr. Don set
up a second practice in Redwood Shores to accommodate his patients from
Provident Credit Union, Electronic Arts and Oracle.
His offices participate
and donate to many local charities and will consider any request.
Running three businesses
and maintaining his educational requirements involves twelve weeks of travel
each year. Dr. Don makes up for his time lost by working seven days a
week when in town.
In 2004, Dr. Don registered
his offices with Vison Source, a franchise group of 1,250 offices nationwide that
share ideas and education. Consistant with his
Mission Statement, Dr. Don also kept up with technology by adding Optomap
to his exam regimen.
In 2005, Dr. Don packed up his Millbrae office and moved to South San Francisco, at Oyster Point, to service the Biotech industry.
His wife, Hope, works
by his side in all three businesses and in all their outside activities.
They find time to golf together wherever they travel. His son, Devin,
is in Law School and his daughter, Rebecca, is a teacher in Pacifica.
